Tuesday Smelly

When I was a kid most of the fathers had Enfield 303's. Money was scarce what with trying to keep food in the kids and clothes on them, so most of our dads got by with the Enfields and called 'er good. A couple high rollers had real sporting guns - and even fewer had scopes. In my neck of the woods, when Pop went to get his deer gun - it was an Enfield. When he went for his moose and elk gun - it was an Enfield.

When I was young and stupid you could by pristine examples for peanuts - which I did. And promptly sold it or traded it away. I am still kicking myself for that.

  1. I have two of them as they were used back in the old days. Many used 30-30 lever guns but the 303 was so cheap. My BSA 1913 is in original shape while the Endfield 1918 has had the stock sporterized as they used to call chopping the wood off.

  2. I love mine, a 1948 FTR No. 4. Ammo is a bit pricy but reloading is recycling, amirite?

  3. Of course you're right! BP, I heard they have springy actions and stretch their brass - you ever notice that with yours? The guys around here are shooting theirs with hard cast and 4227 and having a ball with them...
