The Filthie Cruffler: I'll Take "Obscure Firearms Alex..."

You know the rules: no Googling, no whispering from The Peanut Gallery, no prompting from the studio audience! I will go first - that top one is a Mannlicher and that's all I know about it from the name on the gif file. Other than that - forget it! I am out!

I remember when Jeopardy was a new game show and I still watched the odd one here and there. In one exciting episode the two brainiacs duelled for the win while the third guy just sat there like a bump on a log for the entire show. I'm not kiddin' - he didn't have one cent in the bank at the end of the show and everyone at home here in TV Land laughed at him.

Now I know how that feels!

  1. #3 is a Russian cosmonaut survival pistol. I seem to recall Ian McCollum /Forgotten Weapons did a review on one of them a while back.

  2. Here is an oddball for you to take a stab at.

    No, it's not a Bergman.

  3. Number 4 is a howdah pistol. This hand canon was carried by the great white hunter as he rode along in his howdah, the little house on the back of the elephant. If attacked by a leaping tiger (which did happen, I'm told) you'd draw your howdah pistol and let him have it. One shot was all it would take - for both of you. The recoil and the resultant sprained wrist was better than being mauled to death by a tiger.

    1. That's an inch and a half bore on that thing. That would put a world of hurt on anyone trying to propel a real projectile. I am thinking flare gun and the machined aluminum projectile on the cartridge is just there to throw us all for a a loop. In fact, try asking Mr Google about what the the land of Edelweiss, Cuckoos and Chocolate had for flare guns and ye shall have the answer.

    2. Yessir, you're right about that. Whoda thunkit?

It's still my best guess, even though it isn't a howdah pistol it sure looks the part. To me, anyway.
