Coming Up To The Clearing At The End Of The Trail

My poor Macey.

She struggles with stairs and often falls down them. Getting up them is a struggle too... but she can do it. I'm pretty sure she is blind in one eye now but it doesn't seem to bother her. This morning I cut her walk back to about a quarter mile. It took us a half an hour. I walked as slow as I could so she could keep up. We stopped at every bank of yellow snow to smell, we sniffed at all the rabbit tracks, and dined upon their raisins that they left. When we got back, she struggled up the stairs to the first landing where she crashed and went to sleep with a big smile on her face. Her morning was perfect. My figuring is that as long as she is clean and otherwise comfortable, I will help her in and out of the truck, up and down the stairs, and walk as slow as we need to.

It won't be long now.

  1. Such a difficult choice to have to make. She'll let you know when she stops eating.

  3. I'm truly sorry to hear about Macey. Everyone who's ever owned a dog or a cat has gone through this, and we all get through it, and it just never gets any easier.
