Does anybody have one of those smart watches that links up to your cell? Do they do video? I know guys that have dispensed with the wristwatch altogether… and I think I am becoming one of them in spite of myself.
I used to get that pink line around my wrist that didn’t tan from the sun because of the watch… and this year it’s hardly noticeable. I only wear a watch out of a stubborn habit. I should just go full retard about it and start carrying a pocket watch instead.
I still wear a watch. I didn't for a long time because, hey; my phone has a clock on it. Well, that works great until you need to see the time and your hands are full, or you go to pull the phone out and drop it. I am old school though; a Seiko Diver autowinder. That way, if I end up in the drink with concrete boots, I'll be able to tell the time to a depth of 100M... "Look, Mom; no batteries!!!"
ReplyDeleteThere was a time Seiko was one of the best ones out there. Maybe it is just me, Pete… but I swear their quality is nowhere near what was 20-30 years ago…
DeleteGlen I have a pocket watch out of sheer spite for not wanting to be married to a phone for time. I even have the wind up version. I tend to get the low cost models as I am hard on things.
ReplyDeleteDo they make quartz pocket watches TB?
DeleteYes, I believe they do Glen.
DeleteI gave up on wrist watches years ago. A cell phone has the time and a lot more information in it. The compass trick is nice to have, but there are compass aps on phones that work even better.
ReplyDeleteI keep an U.S. Aviators SERE compass on a necklace, along with a sail needle and a SAK Classic pen knife.
My wife has a smart watch, uses it all the time for messages, phone calls, etc. I suppose that it is pretty cool, useful and the modern thing, but I'm an old curmudgeon. I haven't worn a watch in 20 years or more.
ReplyDeleteWristwatches with metal bands pinched me and pulled out my arm hair, leather or plastic bands got wet from sweat, rotted and stunk. I went to pocket watches a couple years ago. I have a nice gold one I gave myself when I retired. Most of mine are battery operated, but I have a few wind up ones, included my late father's. I just have to be careful of the chain hanging out of my pocket.
ReplyDeleteYes I wear an ESQ that has lasted 22 years so far.
ReplyDeleteI think I have replaced the battery 3 times.
Great reliability and it was only $350.
I haven't seen any of the "smart watches" that would do video, and I have owned a few of them myself... Wouldn't surprise me much if there was one that did play video though...
ReplyDeleteJust got my 1870 key set key wind pocket watch fixed, I love it but in Arizona it's too hot most of the time to wear a vest so it just sits waiting for me to for and my kids can sell it. Oh well
