I was just told that regular citizens in Canada can’t buy body armour. Only law enforceMINT guys can have it. The thinking behind this just makes my mind wobble. Do they think the bad guys are going to strap this chit on? And then go light up a liquor store, and be impervious to the gunfire of the authorities?
I freely admit I am no expert on this stuff either… but hell’s bells! I don’t care what anyone says, or how good your armour is: the kinetic energy laws of impulse and momentum will not be denied. If you get hit by a full power pistol round, you ARE going to feel it. A magnum hit will ruin your day, and a high power rifle hit may end it. The bad guys aren’t going to wear this stuff are they?
I have to wonder about the ethics of denying citizens the use of passive self defences like this too. And these ass hats will rule and legislate on all kinds of moral issues and I am supposed accept it?
It is regrettable Glen, but I expect the same thing will be tried down here in Baja Canada at some point as well. After all, only the "good" guys need it, right?
ReplyDeleteSadly, this ends like it has throughout history: people will get or make armor however they can. It does not change it, just drives it underground.
I'm too lazy to wear body armor. If I need to carry extra weight, it'll be more ammo or water. No need in dying tired from lugging around armor.
ReplyDeleteIf your gubmeyent, you want the upper hand. the only way you keep the upper hand is to make sure "The People" can't have what you have. How do you do that? You pass a law... Meanwhile, the bad guys continue to go their merry way...
ReplyDeleteSomebody is lying to you. It’s legal to own and buy body armour here in On.
ReplyDeleteWhat?!? Impossible!!!
DeleteI must be getting old Dug. I am getting suckered every time I turn around. The only reason I gave this any credence is because I have never seen it for sale in my neck of the woods. And I have heard The Usual Suspects discussing such bans several times and just assumed they got their way the way they always do with such things.
I hate to be a boor... but do you have any links that you could pass along to confirm? I don't distrust anyone, but I need to see sources on everything these days.
Not that it matters, I suppose. With my legendary pistolcraft, I am almost utterly invincible!!!
(GAH! What is that horrible STINK that's come over my blog...?)
I don’t have a link sorry. My gun store guy said he can order plates and a carrier for a civilian you don’t need to be law enforcement. Only reason I know this is my son asked after we had finished shooting for the day.
DeleteBans only affect the law abiding. Don't abide bad laws.
ReplyDeleteAs someone mentioned to me "Clown World is more retarded than you could ever imagine." This certainly true in this case. Imagine being worried about someone else wearing body armor. I just can't quite imagine that.
ReplyDeleteThey aren't thinking, Glen... that's why they are known as morons.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Chuck. I have enough trouble moving my old fat butt around with no extra weight added. BTW do they make armor sufficient to repel a 180 grain 30-06 through the pelvis? Just curious.
ReplyDeleteShift your range time to throats and crotch. Center mass will only knock them back and bruise them if they're armored up. I believe the Chechnyan snipers used .22 to great effect against Russian vehicle commanders who had their head out the hatch while driving in towns and villages. Body armor just gives a person a sense of invincibility that is a bit misguided. Should be used in static defensive positions where you won't be humping it around.
DeleteJust my nickel's worth...
Here in Australiastan body armour has always been illegal, plus self loading anything, crossbows, swords, double edged weapons, slingshots, any martial arts weapon you ever saw, pepper spray for self defense and anything politicians might dislike.Don't let it happen to you!
