  1. I tried dad's when I was a peach fuzzy teen. I took off a couple postage stamp sized spots. No Thanks!! Then, about 5 years ago, I thought, why not try again. Closest shave I can do, and no nicks. I didn't get an adjustable. I found a big assortment of blades on ebay, and I have hardly dented the pile. I even found a sharpener for it!!!

    1. When I was a kid, and was torturing GI Joe to make him talk - I'd use those things to crush his head with.

I used to always be clean shaven but now I am a beardo and loving it.

    2. My rat scraggly cheeks don't grow but a couple whiskers per square cm. Chin whiskers are a bit thin, but they ZZ Top jr. vibe works for me. Trying to make my CSA ancestors happy. ;) So I get to shave and grow.

  2. Back in the late 50s when I was starting to shave every 3 days I used a Gilette double edge razor with Gilette blades I was covered with little toilet paper patches every morning. Then a friend introduced me to Wilkinson Sword blades and things improved.

  3. That's the exact razor and cream that I use (diferent after shave though). Derby Extra blades from Amazon made in Egypt (100 for $7). My method is: shave in the evening, against the grain, short strokes. Hardly ever a nick.

  4. I've been using a Gillette double edge safety razor for over 50 years. As a matter of fact, I'm still using the same Gillette double edge safety razor I was issued 50 years ago.

  5. I've come full circle, started out using one , used the disposable ones for a few years, and went to the electric for a while , played with the idea of a straight razor but decided for the old safety razor instead .Dont use the canned shaving cream , get a brush and shaving soap .

  6. Use Feather blades and a Rockwell 6s. Best shave I can get without using a straight razor.

  8. I tried using one of these but the shaving cream kept running down into my socks!

  9. The trick is to drink half the bottle of Old Spice before you begin.

  10. I used one of those in the 60's and early 70's. When Gillette came out with the Good News double blade I believe I threw the old razor into the woods behind the house and never looked back. These days I use knock off Shick Hydro's I buy on the 'bay. 5 blades, lasts a couple months each.

  11. I borrowed my dads adjustable when I went into Basic, July, '69. Didn't use it until the TI noticed my peach fuzz. That night I removed about 2 square inches of upper and lower dermis on the first sideburn stroke, right side. Took about 3 toilet paper rolls and an hour to stop the bleeding. The next day I got a look of amused sympathy from the Sarge, but no shit. Beard only for 4ish decades now. Hides a lot of ugly.

  12. That's pretty much my daily shave. I use a 1961 Gillette adjustable and Super-Max Platinum blades from India. About $8 per brick of 100 blades.

But I never use canned goop. There are some great crams and soaps out there now.
