I've had me 2 Nylon 66s. The first my mother got me brand new at Christmas in 1955 in Sears. The second a few years back at a local pawn shop. I put a Weaver on it and the squirrels are dead meat.
'Saw a "Cherry!!" '66 at a gun show in Fayetteville, NC back in the early 2000's.... 'like.... $1000.00!!!!! skybill PS... remember the hype!!.. "Nylon??... 'Won't hold up!!!" Yeah sure... Today just look around!!!!!!
I agree. I remember back in 64 or 65 the old man buying a surplus .30 cal. carbine out of a gun magazine and Railway Express delivered it to the front door. The irony was that this occurred in NY. I still have the .30, it's an Inland and I love it. - WDS
My grandfather had an Ithaca Md 37 12 gauge pump; my father had one as well, with fancier wood on it. I have one with an English style stock that I bought in Pierre, SD.
I had three friends with me, and I walked out of the sporting goods department with my new shotgun, uncased, through the supermarket, across the parking lot, and no one so much as raised an eyebrow.
That's civilization. That's the way I want to live.
I have 4 of them. Paid more than that though.

Back in the day, the old man & I would pass the Shotgun News back and forth pointing out "deals". Good times.....

I wish I would have kept some old issues of Shotgun News. Glen is right... We were a better people back then.

The last Gibson's I know of is in Kerrville, TX. It has a GINORMOUS sporting goods department.
ReplyDeleteWe had a Gibson's in my hometown in East Texas. That catalog page brings back memories.
