  1. Never saw one on skis, but I was the kid who'd get home from school, grab my bike, and go racing off to the airport about 3 miles away, to watch the afternoon flight of Hughes Air West land and take off again. Hanging on the fence, I wanted to fly so bad I could taste it. And the sound of those big ol' round motors is unforgettable.

  2. They were said by the aviation industry to be the worst aircraft [ for industry] ever built because, in the pre- computer era, they were way over built. They were too durable and lasted to long. They still soldier on in the backwaters of the world.
First aircraft ride for me was in 1962 as an air cadet in a C-47 Dakota of the RCAF that had canvass benches instead of seats.
    Will remember forever!
