The C-47/DC-3 will never die. Have you checked our the turbo prop upgrade? An immortal design with an upgrade/restoration industry based on the old war. After entropy has dragged the world to a halt, there will be these birds sitting on the ramp waiting for someone to climb into the pilot seat and fire her up. First flew Dec. 17 1935!
That plane my dad flew... C-47 and he was in love. I have his old WW2 flight records and log books. In one log book, he became Gen. Patton's pilot for four months and the General signed his log book. My dad liked Patton and thought the same way, we were fighting the wrong enemy and should have rehabilitated the German Army and turned toward the further East...
Warren Basler was the guy who went from Refurbishing old '-3s to Re-Engine Kits with Pratt & Whitney PT-6 Turboprops. He was Killed in a Crash some Time ago, but his Company still does "Conversions" of '-3s that are so Extensive that the FAA gives them a New Designation under a Production Type Certificate. They have more than Twice the Horsepower than the original Piston-Engine versions.
Is that a C-47 Skytrain ?
