What is a lifetime?

If it’s a trail…I think I am gonna set my pack down here, sit down,
and ponder things for a bit. You know how it is with these things.
Y’all keep going.
I’ll catch up tomorrow.

Thanks for stopping in.
Much love

Filthie

  4. a good dog can leave you with a hole that you can never fill back up again.
you may have more fun furry friends that will give you reason to smile, but the good ones are always close to mind even then.
I does hope to met then again when one crosses the rainbow bridge. and that is my idea of what heaven should be.

  5. I feed these stray cats...I really don't like cats...but somehow over the last year and a half they have come to believe that I am running a shelter....no I don't like them...but I might have named my favorites.....I really can't be bothered with them.....with feeding them twice a day...building them a shelter from the cold...bringing them milk.....buying them toys.....no cats really are not for me......one died crossing the street, I buried him in my back yard....I may in fact love the little bastards.......I was not going to cry...maybe a tear or two......

I'm sorry for your loss. Truly.

  9. My condolences sir, losing your canine home companions sux a$$. Been there twice in the past 15 years. Definitely a good time to get into peaceful woods and do some contemplating about their leaving your Life.

From what I've read in your blog, you did everything you could that made her happy and comfortable. You accommodated her needs as much as possible. I'm sure she appreciates it.

Every time another blogger loses a dog, I read The Rainbow Bridge and fog up again. Have a shot and remember yer wonderful mutt.

And all of Man's virtues with none of his vices

  41. There is no one who can tell you how to grieve for the loss of your friend and companion. Take whatever time you need, and know that there are many of us on this esteemed forum who understand the pain you feel, even while knowing that you have done what needed to be done.
The only thing I can offer is to suggest a re-reading of Rudyard Kipling's poem The Power of the Dog. It is some of the most powerful use of the language I have ever seen.

  54. Sorry for your loss, I've experienced it many times and it never gets easier. Because of my age, I am and shall remain dogless. I am old enough for any dog to outlive me and there would be no one to take care of it afterward. That would be too cruel.

    1. I'm very sorry to hear that you are in that difficult position, James. I'm closer to 70 than 60, with a dog who is getting close to her expiration date as well, so I believe I can empathize with how you feel.
I volunteer at my local animal shelter and during my training I was surprised to learn that their intake process always includes taking in and keeping a few older dogs for folks who are in your situation. Might that be an option for you as well?
You are to be commended for your unselfish attitude of putting the dog's needs ahead of your own, I wish more people were that considerate. Sounds like you'd be the perfect human for some elderly dog to have :-)

  56. I've been through this enough times to know that even the kindest, most well-intentioned words can't take away the pain of that loss. When you are past the worst of your grief you may want to have a look at A Dog's Last Will and Testament (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tWWgU7zjswM). When I lost my precious Betsy, I took those words to heart. Knowing that I was honoring her unspoken wishes helped with the healing process. Keeping you in my prayers...

  57. A heterodoxy
I dreamed one night I came
    Somehow to Heaven, and there
    Transfigured shapes like flame
    Moved effortless in air.

    All silent were the Blest,
    Calmly their haloes shone,
When through them all there pressed
    One spirit whirling on.

    He like a comet seemed,
But wild and glad and free,
And all through Heaven, I dreamed,
    Rushed madly up to me.

    Back from his haloed head
    A flaming tail streamed far,
This way and that it sped
And waved from star to star.

And, as I saw it shot
    Like searchlights through the sky,
I knew my dog had got
To Heaven as well as I.

  77. It came to me that every time I lose a dog they take a piece of my heart with them, and every new dog who comes into my live gives me a piece of their heart.

If I live long enough, all the components of my heart will be dog, and I will become as generous and loving as they are.
