Years ago I saw something very similar at Alberta's famed Reynold's Museum. They were literally mini-bikes that went over The Channel on D Day, and were thrown out with the paratroopers in the skies over Fwance. The bikes were small, light, foldable - and who woulda thunk they were just the ticket for the Canadian versions of Sgt. Rock! HAR HAR HAR!
But the little bikes kept information flowing back and forth between the allies, long enough to establish a beach head, set up shop and bring in full blown dispatch riders on bigger bikes. Most of them were cheap and discarded as soon as possible and very few survived.
This must be an old pic - if ya look closely there's a sign up in the show room for JAWA motorcycles.
