... just informed me that, effective Sept. 1 - I would be taking a pay cut. What it will amount to is anyone's guess because I don't know how they figure the sales commissions. I know for a fact they are a playing 'hide the salami' with the sales and the books but I don't care - I know what I'm worth and if they don't want to pay me for my time I won't work for them. Ordinarily I would just reduce the amount of effort I put into my job to correspond to the pay cut - but I am caught between a rock and a hard place: I love the owners of the company, I love their dad and a number of my customers have become friends and frenemies.
But I am not a charity; I put out a resume today. The owners are all elderly and/or getting on so maybe it's a good time to move on. Been thinking this for quite awhile now.
Thanks to my wife and my Maker I don't walk alone.
But I have made up my mind. It's time to move on...
Have a good Friday. Get out there and enjoy the fall leaves.
That's what I'm thinking too, Harp. New owners will almost guarantee a shake up because they'll have their own ideas and their own people and I dunno if I want to stick around for that.
if the owners are ageing, then they will get social insurance--don't feel sorry for them. when you leave you might write a nice letter to them because they have been good. all things pass. something good might turn up, but beware--under the frying pan is the fire.
Yes to all that Deb. I will go on good terms. And I am fully aware of the frying pan/fire relationship. I expect to get burned, possibly a few times before finding stable employment again. There's a lot of fly-by-nighters out there, and they use the tough economic times to take advantage of people.
Sorry to hear about this. Best of luck.
ReplyDeleteThanks BW!
DeleteA man has got to do what is best for himself and family if he has one. They might be trying to sell the business. Less payroll more profit.
