I read somewhere, years ago back in the Middle Ages that it wasn’t uncommon for locks to have anti-tampering mechanisms incorporated into their designs. Some of the best were made in Padua in Italy. They had poisoned needles incorporated into their design that would jab would-be thieves. 

I wonder if they shouldn’t start building locks that way again...?
