I brought back several from my time in Turkey, when electricity was problematic at best. Glad I had them when an ice storm in Upstate NY knocked out my power for 27 days.
I think our longest time without power was about three days in the winter. We kept the fireplaces (two) going, and chopping wood will keep you warm when you work outside. I think, as I remember it, we had an old fashioned hand pump for water, as we had well water, and we cooked over the fireplace. I thought that was fun, and I think my folks didn't mind that part of it.
I always loved the looks of those lamps. I bought a genuine, antique one decades ago at a junk store for a few dollars....
