According to Farley Mowat in his book Owls in the Family (1962), owls have no sense of smell, and his pet owl would bring home highly perfumed skunks as a special treat to share. Not sure who to believe, but Mowat is best known for his book Never Cry Wolf.
Shot a 'yote once that had a beautiful hide, but it had just gotten into a skunk. I whole skinned it, right down to the toe nails, figuring I could soak it in something to get rid of the smell. No such luck. Would have been cool otherwise.
baby skunks make a sound like birds chirping. you really do not want to hear that coming up through your floor.
ReplyDeletebuzzards don't eat dead skunks. coyotes, ravens, not even flies eat dead skunks.
