I know that I should hate ivory for the market it represents (it’s entirely based on poaching)…but gawd… what a magnificent material. These ones are probably done with a man made synthetic if I don’t miss my guess.

If the taking of ivory were not illegal, poaching wouldn't exist. In point of fact, it didn't exist to a meaningful degree until it was outlawed. Then, like drugs, it became very profitable. The outlawing of Elephant hunting will result in the extinction of the Elephant. This is what happens when professional game management is replaced by feel good politicians. Everyone loses.
Funny. Where elephants are free-roaming animals (Africa) they are poached. Where they are owned by individuals (Asia, where they are valued beasts of burden) this is not a problem.
Today in the US most legal ivory comes from old trophy mounts that nobody wants, is reworked from antiques or is from wolly mamoths and mastadons dug up on the tundrs in Ak.& Siberia. There are man mad materials like Maycore and phenolic plastic that are very rugged and are hard to distinguish without an eye loop. With all that said if you want "The LOOK but not the guilt its easy to get er done.
