Apparently that’s a custom job from the guys at Bowen
Classic Arms.
I’ve been getting a serious hankering to stoke my 45 Colt Redhawk for awhile now. According to John Linebaugh in a Ruget it is a pice of cake to duplicate 44 magnum velocities. For a 250-ish grain bullet, the 44 mag runs around 1400 ft/second. I don’t need that much according to Linebaugh - he and his sons are dumping Mule Deer with 260’s going at 900 ft/sec.
Some guys get trapped into the bigger-better-faster ego trips but I am not one of them. I seek efficiency and power that I can’t use is a waste.
If you are a 45 Colt guy as I am… there is some fine reading to be had here.
According to the Hodgdon reloading site, you can get +900fps with a cast 260 grain bullet with several powders and not exceed .45 Colt pressure specs. 9.2 gr CFE pistol clocked +1000 fps
ReplyDeleteNo need to beat up the gun or the shooter.
Just so, ERJ. And like clockwork, every year the guns get bigger and badder and more expensive. Those latest hand cannons from S&W just make my mind wobble… can you even holster those things?
ReplyDeleteI love the Hogden site too. Like most guys I have 7 or 8 or more reloading manuals and now everything is free and on line. The times they are a changin’…
