That’s the 500 S&W magnum. Every once in awhile I get taken by gun fever and start lusting after some new gun or other. Fortunately I can’t be squandering funds to feed my bad habit anymore. The muzzle blast off this monster is off the charts. It will create balls of fire you can see in broad daylight. I don’t think the human animal exists that can shoot this thing with any kind of precision. There’s a rude joke going round the innernet that goes something like, “The S&W 500 Magnum: because f*** you, f*** the six guys standing behind you, and f*** my wrists…”
I bet Phil over at the Busted Knuckle Garage could shoot it. ππ
Yes, but Phil would design and try to build some kind of strange contraption out of some stuff found lying around in the garage to tame that beast's ferocity. Then he would decide that he needed some part or other that he didn't have and go out and buy it. After putting everything together he would decide on another modification and machine some more parts and need yet more things from the hardware store that he didn't have. After many more false starts and mods he would finally get the thing to work, but it ended up costing three or four times the original price of the gun and weigh upwards of 700 lbs......
ReplyDeleteI think he would be disgusted with it and try to bark it up to be even meaner... ;)
DeleteYeah, you may be right. He is one crazy dude, but a cool dude nonetheless.....

A guy I went to high school with showed me a video of him shooting the 500, as loaned to him by a friend. The thing kicks so hard you wouldn't believe it.
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is that anyone who asks why you'd want this beast in your collection will never understand your reasoning. In my case, if it were given to me, I'd consider keeping it and shooting it with custom loads (read light loads).
Yep. There is no practical need for guns that big. I am not a recoil pussy, but I top out at the 44 magnum. I can go about a dozen rounds with full powered loads and then I start to flinch. Once you start doing that you may as well put it down and quit for the day.

DeleteThese hand cannons are great if you want tendonitis and nerve damage.

I was cured of any desire of that when I was eleven years old and the idiot uncle of a friend though it would be OK for me to shot his S&W model 29. It wound up about eight feet behind me.
