EDC - How Small Do Ya Go

Living as I do - under a rock out in Stubfart Forest… I don’t have much exposure to the big city delights like urban outdoorsmen, diversity, recreational pharmaceuticals or white underwear. EDC for pistols is pretty much illegal in Canada and I don’t need to carry anyway. But if I did I’d probly want to go bigger than smaller.

I used to think that I’d never go shorter than a 3” barrel on any gun I owned. But I’ve seen a few guys shooting reasonably well with them… enough to reconsider that, as a matter of fact. And though I’m smitten with the Sig P365 and their competitors from Glock, Springfield and S&W… something like this would look much better on me.

  1. Well, not an EDC, but my Star PD .45acp is my high-miler, very often carried side arm at the ranch. Six shot magazine, about a 4" barrel, fully adjustable sights and less than 2 lbs loaded. Holster is a Bianchi Speed .45, its very handy and stays out of the way which is why it is often chosen to step out. Very similar in size to the one shown above, only not nearly so shiny and bling.

  3. My first baby cc gun is a Glock 26. The latest is a Ruger Max 9, not the smallest one out there, but it's the smallest that fits my hand. It is MUCH smaller than the Glock, but still holds 10 rnds with the flush fit mag. out of the box the sights were right on with 3 types of ammo, 115 gr., 124 gr. and 147gr. I can't complain, but sometimes I still do.

  4. I agree about the "less than 3 inches"
    EDC is a S&W 380 EZ

  5. Nope, not gonna carry a midget. I started carrying a Smith 4 inch, then went to a Glock 23. Then a Glock 19. Now going down to a Bersa Thunder just because I can hold it well, the weight tamps down the 380 recoil well and it has a longer barrel than guns like a Ruger LCP. This is for CCW. On the ranch I always carried a Security Six 6in on the hip with hot 158gr soft point jacketed solids loaded with Blue Dot, mostly due to feral hogs. When the two legged critters showed up, forget the pistol, went with a WASR 7.62X39. In Texas we don't have very many big bears. But we do have a shit ton of people with full facial tats that don't speak English. We need to carry.

  6. The new Taurus GX4 looks promising. It is comparable to the P365, Ruger Max9, and Hellcat in size and capacity. The thing that is drawing me to it, is it comes with 2 different size backstraps, which should help those of us with larger hands get a better grip on it.

  7. EDC depends on season & where I’m going. Winter, when I may have to punch thru several layers of clothing or fur, fat & muscle, it’s a full size 1911 in 45 ACP with the first 2 rounds hardball followed by 230 JHP. Summer around town is a 4 in barreled S&W 38. Out of town winter carry is a DH40 & the Ruger PCC in 40 S&W; summers my Marlin 1894 & S&W 629, both in 45 LC loaded up a bit, are my companions.

  8. I had a Colt Officer's for years until my favorite daughter desired it. Then I got a Defender, put a Yost rear sight on it, and sliked it by shooting it a lot. Now the carries are all full sized: 1911, or Glock 21 for social events. I don't have to hide anything now. Still working on "breath like kerosene".

  9. My daily concealed carry is an LCP-380 (mouse gun) in a MECO back pocket holster. It's loaded alternating flat nose ball and hollow point. I even carry it when I open carry. https://mecopocketholsters.com/shop/ols/products/standard-rear-pocket-holster-fd41a900-ca7b-41e3-afdd-c2c84bb64ed4
