No weirder than imperial measures but I’ve always wondered why they had a guinea that was only one shilling greater than a pound.

Guinea was genarally used in auctions or for accounting eg the origonial name of the America’s cup was ‘50 guinea cup’ eg price of a good sailing boat-no ship, boatas some folks ran the race as a claiming stakes before America sailed off with it.
Are these the same Nancy Girls who look down their noses at us because we refuse to use the metric system?
