I think society had this argument back in the 1960s. Every once in a great while you'd catch sight of a hippie chick smoking a traditional pipe with tobacco in it.
I heard a fascinating theory about this new infatuation with 'strong women' who just strike me as fake, bitchy, and unlikeable.
It goes that a lot of men these days - especially the younger ones - have been raised by women and single moms. Their love of these power skirts and strong women is because they feishized their mothers and project that onto their girls. Left unchecked - these guys would seek women that would dominate them the same way their mothers did. The whole thing is unsavoury and unhealthy...
My dear Maternal Grandma dipped snuff and liked loganberry wine(shudder} and a shot of corn whisky on occasion. She came from Mississippi and converted to Mormonism with Grandpa when a young mother. Diagnosed with a heart murmur at 15, she had 9 children(one died as an infant) and lived hale and hearty until the age of 96. I remember her as a sweet real lady.
Mammy Yokum wouldn't be the same without her corn-cob!

ReplyDeleteIs this Hollywood's idea for a politically correct remake of Sherlock Holmes? Nobody but the dyke squad will pay to see Sharlene Holmes.
ReplyDeleteLooks better than a cigarette dangling
