One a the best tricks I’ve ever seen is where the kids get a big ass chopping block - and then put a tire on top… and the log to be split goes inside of that. It keeps ‘em from having to chase the split fragments around.
In my old age I bought one of those electric log splitters and I never looked back. I am at the age where I can swing an axe … but would rather not.
At 71 and counting I HAVE to keep swinging the ax and the maul, or else I'll seize up. Still wielding a chain saw building raised garden beds, hauling 50lb bags of feed, etc. Waiting for the end with a smile and a 1943 Swedish Husvarna Mauser in 6.5. Hits hard enough and accurate further than I can see. If you feel so inclined, I would be honored to accept the donation of a junky old M1a... or sumthin'. Have a great day and keep yer digits out of the plane of rotation. Tree Mike
ReplyDeleteI keep telling ASM826 that he needs one of those.
ReplyDeleteLog splitter is probably the best money I ever spent (almost): we're on only wood heat down here in the middle of the damned southern New Mexico desert and it does get cold in winter. Have four cords ready to go with three more coming. Stay warm up there in the north lands.
ReplyDeleteI split most of my firewood by hand. For the big stuff, I’ll get with a couple nearby guys and we rent a 20 ton engine driven splitter for the weekend. Do all of our big chunks at once. Most of our trees aren’t more than 2 ft across anyway, so swinging a maul’s not a bad way to spend a day.
ReplyDeleteShe can swing my axe any time. No frilly nonsense, just a solid helpmate. The perfect woman from my point of view.
ReplyDeleteLooks like she knows what she doin. Both hands on the end of the handle on the down stroke. Provocative because her mouth is shut.
DeleteCut and split your own wood, it'll heat you twice!
