So what’s this? 20mm? 30?

Yannow… I don’t get military big game hunting at all. The big boys will get positively hosed with these monsters and shrug them off and keep fighting. But a flimpy little Javelin rocket will take them out and kill them dead?

Mind you I have my doubts about that now too. On Telegram I’ve seen the Ukes use shoulder fired rockets on tanks, get good hits…but the machine they are shooting at survives. You have to be careful with stuff like that because, like our own stuff - it’s all propaganda, all the time. But I am getting the impression that those Javelins and NLAWs may not be all they are cracked up to be.

But whadda I know.

  1. Actually, it's looks more like 25mm rounds. Could be 20, but definitely not 30. 25mm is one inch, and they look that size to me. Since we don't know what kind of vehicle they are being loaded into, kind of hard to tell the exact size. Plus, can't read the markings on the bottom of the rounds.

    1. Hmmmmm. The guy holding them…he has some smaller stuff…
that definitely looks Russian. What are those? It looks to me like 7.62x54R… but they don’t use that anymore do they? Seems to be two ammo mysteries here.

    2. 7.62*54R is the standard round for the SVD and the SV-98 along with the PK and the Pecheneg.

  2. Nope. Can tell you, that's 37mm being loaded into what's probably either a BMP-2 or one of the new wheeled Vehicle variants. I helped the Krainians load one in Baghdad one time... yeah, the Kraine had troopies in Baghdad around 2004-5? When I saw them laagered up, I -had- to go over for a look-see. Even got a patch from one of them.

    1. Yeah, I checked out the BMP, but it's main gun fires 37mm. There is no way these rounds are big enough to be 37mm. You could be right, but I ain't convinced at this point. I guess I will have to put the question to my expert friend in Texas.

    2. So what are those, BC? They can shoot explosives, tracer and AP projectiles, right?

    3. OK, here's the deal. They are 30mm rounds. 37mm rounds do not come in belts, they only come in five round clips, and the rounds are much bigger with a quite noticeable shoulder on the cartridge. This is not them. BMD-2, BMD-3, BRM RYS and Pantsir air defence system also use this type of ammo. I have a ton more info and photos I can put in here, but you're probably limited on the characters this will hold. Anyway, suffice to say - definitely 30mm.

    4. Dammit, yer right,
      BMP-1 = 37mm.
      BMP-2 = 30mm.
I fucked around with the BMP-2. The belt rides around a 'carousel' feed around the top of the turret...TOTAL brain fart... too many years, too many beers.

  3. 37mm is what the PzkwIII carried. Basically a truck, MG nest, and apc killer

  4. 30x165 for the autocannon common to BMP and BMD infantry fighting vehicles (among others). The small arms rounds are linked 7.62x54R for the machine gun.

  5. There was an article earlier, nearly EVERYTHING being sent to Ukraine is SHIT and doesn't work, the shoulder fired AT weapons, most have not been tested in over 20 years and fail when needed, the Howitzers recently sent, have all been destroyed, to start with, good ol uncle Sammy refused to add the targeting systems, in case Uncle Joe snagged one and got to study it. That shipment of Switchblades (if you haven't, check out the sales video on Y-tube), the MOMENT it arrived in Ukraine, Vlad blew up the building they were in, (sorry had a LOL irl moment then). This is a exercise in "send all your obsolete and busted SHIT to Ukraine to write it off your TOE, and then call Uncle Sammy and place fresh orders". I wrote somewhere that the USA is depleting the world stinger missile supply, and cannot replenish it because "lack of chips from.... CHINA..." (curse those sanctions and trying to "contain" a major manufacturing nation, like THAT was ever going to happen) "we hope to be able to start producing our own chips in the future" added the Pentagram spokesperson. some crazy exceptionalist South of Y'all had a screaming rant at me how they have the most supplies and the greatest weapons, he never got back to me after l pointed out the Rueters article quoting the Pentagram spokesperson. Buckle up boys, this shitshow ain't over yet.
