Well this is it - the last of the easy stuff on the Turd Bird project - hopefully. This is a used engine and I have no idea what it's history is. I cleaned it up a bit, the bearings seem good. It has compression, the glow plug works, and the hi and lo jets have been set to preliminary positions. I will just C-clamp it to one of the saw horses in the back yard and give it a preliminary tune - assuming it starts - and let half a tank of nitro rip through it. If everything passes - I'll take all that junk off the test fixture and start installing it in the plane.
Gawd I hope everything works!!!
Looks like a real monster!
ReplyDeleteI recommend an early start to this project. It starts getting light out at 5AM so it will be a good time for your neighbors to get up too.
ReplyDeleteWatch for volleys across the fence.
Can ya video that test ? Might be worth a chuckle or two if the sawhorse takes off....
ReplyDeleteThat thing looks DANGEROUS! Like remove digits violently, painfully dangerous, and I'm a chainsaw guy of 40+ years. Tree Mike
ReplyDeleteWell that plastic spinner is going to get chewed to chit the first time I use it. Getting a proper metal one is pretty tough these days…
ReplyDeleteElectric starter ? Mine used to dine on plastic spinners.
