  1. Get one. The balance is far superior to a single bit.

  2. I found one at a flea market in the early 80's. A little cruiser (I think that's the right term). Short handle, light weight. It's perfect for splitting kindling or carry on the pack.

  3. One blade is not finely sharpened, for rough dirty work like cutting into the ground or roots. The other blade is kept finely sharpened for regular tree felling. Those old-timers were sorta smart fellers.,

  4. There was a guy used one and it bounced back and chopped him right in the forehead. Never wanted one after hearing that.

  5. 1st team hall of fame double bit - Dick Proenneke - at 4:08, 6:00, 6:30, and 7:45 as examples on this site - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYJKd0rkKss - in the late 60s built his cabin with only hand tools. This 'cruiser length' double bit was often in his hands, and always in motion.
