The Guns Of WL Emery

Fellas I dunno what to make of take-down guns. I suppose these are OK if all ya need is minute of rhino at 15 yards. (The fearless WL prefers to typically shoot them at half that - he likes to tenderize the meat and spice it with burning gun powder).

I always see the Hollywood snipers shooting variants of these. Bruce Willis will snap together a sniper rifle, make a shot 1700 yards, the take it apart and roll it up in a carpet and escape right under the cops’ noses. I wonder how much precision is lost with these kinds of guns?

  1. No experience with take-down levers and bolt actions. Mine is limited to the traditional single shot shotguns and T/C carbines. One of my old bosses had an old Savage 99 take-down, but he rarely took it apart, as the advice was this contributed to poor accuracy down the road.

Those pictured above are works of art. Their forearms appear to be pretty short, but maybe that is just the perspective fooling my eyes.

  2. The breach on a howitzer operates on an interrupted thread. I haven't read much on how they measure wear. I have wondered if there were problems with multiple cycles of breakdown and reassembly of take down rifles. I guess it depends, like everything, on care, cleaning and pressures involved.

Those barrels up there use a lug, not interrupted threads. And 318 Rimless develops 3000 lbs of muzzle energy. I guess strength of the system isn't a question. Shazzam! That is a lot of pressure 18.5 tons per square inch chamber pressure.

  3. The ones that always get me are the cheap-a** movie producers who don't bother to use a rifle like the ones above, but use an AR-7 survival rifle in .22 rimfire and then proceed to take a 200 yard shot that kills with one shot.

  4. Take Note that those Guns have both the Front and Rear Sights on the Barrel- so the Alignment with the Receiver and Stock does not Matter, since the Cartridge and Bullet are held in the Barrel.
A Telescopic Sight mounted the same way would give the same result.

  5. A quality take down rifle is not losing any appreciable accuracy over normal rifles. Both are more accurate than 99% of shooters. Get past 500 yards and it might make a difference. But few people are capable of making shots past that distance.

  6. I am making $92/hour telecommuting. I never imagined that it was honest to goodness yet my closest companion is earning $21 thousand a month by working on the connection, that was truly astounding for me, she prescribed me to attempt it simply.
