It would be a heavy lift proposition, of course - but it is feasible. I dunno if that is the real deal or a clever photoshop.
I've never fired a rocket launcher before but the limitations of them, if I understand them correctly - is that the weapon needs time to lock on to its target. That's okay if you can fire from a place of concealment. But if not... you would have to expose yourself for the time it takes to lock... thus exposing yourself to the surly, sharp eyed machine gun operators that might be riding in the tank or truck you're shooting at.
One of these a hundred feet up would give you your chance to line up AND keep an eye on the other target(s) and threats downrange. I still think the kamikazee drone concept like the Switchblade might be a better way to go... but I might be convinced otherwise.
Gotta call BS on this one.
ReplyDeleteBut I like the way they think.
Just wondering when it was lit off how stable would it be, can the operator correct it in time?
ReplyDeleteUsing one of the newer missiles, like the Javelin, that has little recoil and little backblast would be feasible. Wouldn't be surprised if it's already been done.
ReplyDeleteWe have fired model rockets from RC helicopters and planes for years. Scaling it up shouldn’t be a problem. Might want to put the launch tube under the chassis, though, to get the exhaust as fat away from the very meltable props as possible.
Deletewhy don't you just kamikaze a bomb right into the target as you view it
ReplyDeletefly it precisely to the point
you can mass produce the drones
I agree that the Switchblade or similar might be the best way to go. Would still be fun to watch.
ReplyDeleteAccuracy impossible.
ReplyDeleteThe thing would recoil hundreds of feet before the projectile left the tube.
Go wank on an L1-A1
If we still had Davy Crockett we would have to worry about these little mosquitoes....
ReplyDeleteWeaponized small drones like this are still in the very early stages of design, development and testing. But make no mistake about it. They are coming. Eventually they will be as common or even more common than infantrymen on the field of battle. Unless of course an effective counter to then
ReplyDeleteActually, it's real: https://www.janes.com/defence-news/news-detail/belarus-pursues-armed-multirotor-uas-developments
ReplyDeleteMost small Drones don't have the Capacity to carry more than a Grenade or two, but for an Irregular Warfighter, that may be all that's needed.
