Where Great Intelligence Goes To Be Insulted

An enraged Glen Filthie reacts at the despicable content of daytime TV...

Back when I worked and had a life, and my inlaws were living with us, I'd come home after work and sure as chit... my wife's parents were glued to the TV watching Orca Winfrey and Dr. Phil. My own mother watches The View and the talk-TV shout shows and thinks she is informed too. I don't get it. Whoopie Goldberg has an IQ of....what? 27? Mom's IQ is probly twice that... and yet Woopie will feed Mom her opinions and the old bint will parrot them on cue. My mother in law probly had an IQ three times that of Whoopie and she will too.

I have not been even remotely tempted to watch normal local TV channels. I won't sign up for cable. I really, really should cut the cable on Netflix and Amazon too... but there are classic, non-pozzed shows a guy can re-visit from time to time.

  1. I am right there with ya. My Dad still watches mainstream news ans believes CNN etc. for his political views. I have not watched local TV is years but I keep a few of the streaming services for old 80's and 90's movies. Some I purchased from Amazon so they will always be there for me. There are a few good shows that still come out. I really enjoyed "The Expanse". Ok that is one in like 5 years lol...

  2. I have no cable or satellite service, nor do I subscribe to any streaming service. I watch a little antenna TV, and buy a few DVD's. I'm too busy catching up on unfinished projects to wast time in front of the boob tube anyway.

  3. archive.org has my favorite Humphrey Bogart movies on stream. They have a LOT of stuff on there.

youtube has tons of stuff, too: Film noir, old tv series, all kinds of stuff. Recently billed in my abode: the early 50's Dragnet, Naked City, The Rifleman. The Big Sleep, To Have and Have Not. Loads of stuff. I've even found full length semi-recent movies on there. They may have Mongolian subtitles but that doesn't bother me.

Lots of interesting stuff that you don't have to pay for ifn you don't wanna....

  4. World Poker Tournament (WPT) on Samsung TV, which I get over my internet connection for free has been pretty entertaining. Then I also get Amazon Prime via that membership, and a slew of DVDs pf favorite movies. Nothing on cable.
