Intriguing Arts N’ Crafts

I am an outhouse leather hobbyist of sorts but I am not any good at it. I enjoy my creations but I will never   win any awards for my work. Poli is great at it but he is a shop meister that’s up there with guys like Phil and STxAR.

I really, really want to like this stuff. The work is first rate… but I’d never actually use stuff like this. But…it would last a lifetime easily if it’s cared for. Properly cared for, leather forms and weathers and will become a cherished friend in time that you can always rely on.

I like the tactical mutt vests too.  I’d like to put one on Mort and strap spare hand grenades, handguns and knives to him…but the law, common sense and finances are against me on that one. Here the concept is executed in leather… and I dunno what to make of that either. I’d have to see how the dawg moves in it I suppose.

  1. That is a cool canine pack, but my dog would chew the crap out of it I think. She cannot be trusted to be left alone with a harness on, as she will do everything in its power to get shed of it. She don't do boundaries I guess.

My ruck sack is a Swiss military surplus leather and heavy salt and pepper canvas unit. It can stand our south Texas thorny undergrowth pretty well. Sportsmansguide sold them for very cheap prices, often two packs for less than $30 which is a steal. They are now sold for $200 and up. They are probably worth it - good stuff should be expensive. That market fuels DIY.

  2. My wife is a leather crafter. She owns a shop here in town selling homemade shoes bags and other stuff. She has a booth at the Renaissance Festival where she sells a large part of what she makes. I'm always impressed by people who are good at creating things with their mind and their own two hands.

  3. I can imagine that that leather canine pack would be hot, heavy, and rub sores. Like putting a saddle on a horse without a saddle pad.

There are just some things that modern materials are better use. And some things that are just classier in leather.

  4. Do they make a lower intensity version of that dog? Most Dobermans I've met would chew everything to splinters.
