“Only Sixteen”

Although they were before my time, I am a huge
fan of Dr. Hook…

What a beautiful song. It makes the heart ache, even in guys like me that found their soulmate at a very early age. My wife was 16 when we met, and the only thing that glowed brighter than her eyes was her heart. We grew up together. I suppose I am dead meat if she ever regains her senses of sight and smell, HAR HAR HAR!!!😂👍

Nowadays… what explains the proliferation of broken hearts and marriages? Listening to Dr. Hook, one might think your 20’s and 30’s are “too young to fall in love”… philosophically speaking, I think your young years are the best time of life to fall in love, inninnit? I know for a fact, having watched others, that you can get to OLD to fall in love… and that is truly a horrible place to be. There may be a lot of beauty in this song… but I wonder if the boys didn’t get this one bass ackwards?

  1. Worked for me I tried to fall in love at least once a month or so until my 40's. Not all my Ex's were as happy about it as me though.

  2. On the cover of the CPUSA Rolling Stoned isn't what it used to be.
The 1960's-1980's, a golden time of music that won't be seen again.

  4. Dr. Hook was in town for a concert back in the mid-80s in Amarillo. The day of the concert, they came out to the TV station where I worked, and made an appearance on the noon news/talk program. They were a real hoot. You should have seen Ray messing around with the weather map (old school big map on the wall covered in Plexiglas). They were all a great interview and were real friendly. I was running one of the two cameras that day. The whole crew was laughing their butts off.

  5. Met my husband when I was seventeen, he somewhat older. Been married now 40 years. Marriage is a commitment. Come hell or high water, tough it out, and damn, if we didn’t have some tough patches. No one promised you a rose garden. Life is tough and life isn’t fair. Get over it and work it out. Men will behave like men, and women will behave like women, embrace that concept and you are on your way to enlightenment.

Son and DIL started dating at 16. Married at 24 yrs old. Still rock solid at 30 yrs old. I have great hopes for them. But I am an eternal optimist.

  6. I dunno. My taste in Dr. Hook falls more into "On The Cover of The Rolling Stone", "Freakers Ball", possibly "I Got Stoned and I Missed It"
