Shut it. I don’t want to hear it! The first tard to make rude jokes about my crocs dies. But these boots right here would be just perfect for motorcycle duty. I have chaps for the big road bike but don’t use them. I love leather but for motorcycle work it just sucks. It’s cold in early spring and late fall. It soaks through in rain. It’s murder in high summer when temps hit 30C or more.
A super high top boot though…? Something like that would be awesome…
Boots like that probably cost a pretty penny nowadays. I remember some time back, Sportsmans Guide sold Swiss surplus leather gaiters maybe worth searching for. Genuine Swiss military surplus was well made, built for abuse. Not as tall as those calf high, maybe 9" high or so. But removeable so can use your present boots. Coleman's Surplus appears to have them in stock.
ReplyDeleteThe way things are going if they do come back they'll be on the hooves of a Drag Queen dancing around an elementary school
ReplyDeleteYour chaps: are they of the assless variety?
ReplyDeleteThe photo is evidence they haven't gone outa style: that’s a new Triumph, not vintage.

A contributing factor may be that boots like that take ten minutes to don and another ten to doff.
ReplyDeleteCould be. I avoid using my assless chaps for the same reason... if you gotta take a leak and get them off fast... there's a lot of fussing to get them back on again...
DeleteI wonder if a guy could make re-make his boots like that? I watch those boot builds for Nick's work boots... I bet a leatherworker like Poli could probably do it...
DeleteHmpppfpfpfpfpffff - the more I look at it... I could probably do it. The pattern might be a head scratcher but there are tricks for making them... and the rest is all simple stitching and buckles...
DeleteYou've cobbled together an R/C airplane, why not some boots?
DeleteLeather ain't for keeping you warm it's for stopping the wind from sucking the heat outta your body. In cooler weather, I'll wear a thermal top under a long sleeve t-shirt but I still hate my leather jacket is cold when I first put it on. Sissies are buying heated gloves and jackets now days... smh.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if it is because I am old, A. But I have the leathers (including the assless chaps - but I wear pants under my chaps - anything Pete F says is a damned lie!) - and when they get wet, they will suck the heat right out of you!
DeleteProblem is I can't bear to trade my leather for high tech man made fibres like kevlar and mylar with space age insulation qualities.
Heh, my leather jacket is 30+ years old and is a real trooper while my chaps are brand new and haven't been worn as it's still fairly nice here in SC. I'm old too. It happens.

Filthie, there is an ad that has that same picture offering to sell boots like that. Light In the Box is the store.
ReplyDeleteHere's some reproduction 1940's military boots like those: https://www.whatpriceglory.com/images/M1940boot.jpg
